Kindergarten Read-Aloud List, 21-40

The more you read,
the more you know;
and the more you know,
the smarter you grow!

Below is my continuing record of the books we've read together this school year. Go ahead and check a few out at your local library this week. Your child(ren) will thank you. :)

Our Kindergarten Read-Aloud List, 21-40
*indicates Family Favorite

*21. Tim O'Toole and the Wee Folk by Gerald McDermott (fun Irish tale)
*22. Peasant Pig and the Terrible Dragon by Richard Scarry (this was a winner with my PreK son as well; what could be better than castles and dragons, Richard Scarry style?!)
23. Don't Kiss the Frog!: Princess Stories with Attitude by Fiona Waters
*24. Clare and Francis by Guido Visconti (GORGEOUS illustrations and inspiring example of two beautiful Saints; I will be adding this to our home library!)
25. Mary by Brian Wildsmith
26. Hans Christian Andersen Classic Stories retold by Diane Wolkstein (audio book)
27. The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship: A Russian Tale by Arthur Ransome
*28. Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss (fabulous rhyming story about keeping commitments despite great personal suffering)
29. Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are? by Dr. Seuss
30. The Berenstain Bears Think of Those in Need by Stan and Jan Berenstain
31. The Bears' Picnic by Stan and Jan Berenstain
32. The Berenstain Bears and the Papa's Day Surprise by Stan and Jan Berenstain
33. The Brand New Kid by Katie Couric (a big disappointment; not recommended)
34. The Story of Jumping Mouse by John Steptoe
35. Clifford's First Autumn by Norman Bridwell (better for the PreK age group)
36. Chickens Aren't the Only Ones by Ruth Heller
37. Ox-Cart Man by Donald Hall
38. Pea Soup Fog by Constance Smith
*39. Patrick: Patron Saint of Ireland by Tomie dePaola (we especially loved all the brief legendary tales of St. Patrick in the back)
*40. Franklin Goes To The Hospital by Paulette Bourgeois (this book, while not my typical "favorite," had the kids mesmerized - I can see this as a comforting book to have around in the event of emergency room visits/surgeries/etc.)

  1. We love The Berenstain Bears too. Go Dog Go is another favorite of Rylee's. We also really love The Jesus Storybook Bible.
